What is it that has built the strong biased nature in politicians regarding quotas? Do they fail to understand that it is the economically backward classes which require more help rather that the socially backward classes? It is yet another defeat for...

I really believe that quotas should be based on economy and not on caste. By doing this, the politicians are further deepening the caste problem in our country. This article needs instant response because I feel that all of us are somehow agitated with the quota system.

Quota’s itself are a regressive method employed primarily by the politicians to bolster their minority vote bank. Why the hell should students getting into IIT and IIM get quota’s for admission. Let them make it to these institutions on their own steam and let the government subsidise their fees if they are unable to pay. That’s how equality can slowly be brought about rather than filling such institutions of repute with people who score much lesser than the others just to implement the quotas.

I think in a democracy we must accept a verdict given by Honorable court. Now those who are going to be deprived can have many aspects to studies. The intelligence is not getting an admission in IIT but by becoming a true Indian with kind heart and a great social and national development. There are so many areas untouched. Let us face a global competition than focusing on admission process in IITs & IIMs. Those who have intelligence can shine anywhere. The globe is shrinking and we have so many opportunities. I am a doctor belonging to open category. What ultimately matters is your dedication to nation building than a murky political games.

Dr i don’t feel that the government is really trying to build the nation with these measures. Rather, i would call it divisive vote-bank politics. I don’t understand why the quality of pupils seeking higher education needs to be compromised to achieve the so-called ”equality”. Meritocracy is the need of the day and not quota’s. Next we will have quota’s for jobs in the private sector too and surely these moves are not signs of progress but rather acts of regression.

I do not agree with you Dr Abhay as I have no faith on our judiciary system. A judiciary system which takes decades to form a decision on a rape case, murder case and one which is easily bought and sold cannot be held with respectable eyes. And when it comes to quota, I do not understand why do we even think of a class based quota. It seriously beats the hell out of me.

I never said judiciary is right or wrong. It is the democratic system we have adopted. There are both pros and cons of it.
What can we do now? Can any one change the judgment? Can any one amend the constitution? If not we have accept it.
Why each one of us forget that the leader who wrote constitution wanted reservation for 10 years. Our honorable members of parliament have time to time used their right to extend it till date. If Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar wanted reservation he would have not kept the time limit of 10 years. But all politicians across the board want it till date and so also tomorrow to come.So who is to blame for it?
These are seeds to another revolution to come. Either it is beginning of end or end of the beginning. We may see it happening or our next generation. History repeats.

Well, I do not want to blame someone who is long dead since it is no good talking ill of someone who is no more. I point my thumbs to people like Arjun Singh and Mayawati, who think that the backward classes need more attention. I want to ask them how do they define it? As a class socially backward or economically backward. For if it is socially so, these ministers are making them look like they are by their hues and cries.
